Finding Satisfaction in Singleness

I want to use this blog to share my personal thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I am choosing to share these things as hard as it may be, to be open and vulnerable, because I am sure that I am not the only one struggling with these thoughts and feelings.

The two things that I have wanted more in life than anything else, are to be a wife and a mom someday. Like every little girl, I would daydream about one day dating, getting married, and spending a lifetime together with my prince charming. I would plan out my perfect wedding day in my seven or eight year old brain.

As I have grown up, I have watched countless movies and tv shows that broadcast love, in so many different lights. Every movie talks about “true love” and every time I am done watching these films, I find myself wondering when I will meet the love of my life.

But, those movies and tv shows are filled with a fake love. A conditional love that isn’t real, it is just a fairytale love. But, there is an unconditional love, and it is only found in the person of Jesus Christ.

I know that many of you reading this, probably aren’t believers, but I refuse to shy away from the Truth of what I believe for fear of what others may think or believe. I am a Christian and I believe in Jesus Christ, and I am not ashamed to proclaim such a thing. Without the Lord, I would not be where I am today, He is my everything, and without Him, I am nothing.

As I am a year away from being two decades old, and being a young adult, I can’t help but think about the possibility of dating in the near future. It is the time in life where people start to date, continue dating, and when many will most likely get married.

For years and years, I have struggled with singleness and feeling all alone. For years, I have had crush after crush and imagined what life would be like one day when I am married. But, as time goes on and more and more friends start dating, here I remain single. In the past, this would have left me, lonely and sad, and even at times, it still does. But, the Lord has been changing my attitude and perspective when it comes to this situation. I wanted to share with you all, so that if you are struggling with singleness, you know that you are not alone, and the Lord can change your attitude, just like He did mine.

God has changed my perspective into seeing that, I am not alone. He is with me, and I just need to trust that He has this area in the palms of His hands. And, He is the one writing my story, and He has the perfect guy out there for me; I just need to trust in Him and in His timing. In the meantime, I have a Heavenly Father who loves me more than anything, and He is and should be my one True Love. And, rather than choosing to spend my days wondering about when I will meet the one, I will spend my time obsessing over my Lord and Savior, and spending every waking moment thinking about and talking to Him.

Also, as selfish as this may sound, I need to focus on me. I need to take care of my health and needs. Before, I can even think about attempting to care for the needs of another. Dating and marriage is all about selfless love, and putting someone else’s needs before your own. And, I need to make sure that I have my priorities straight, and that I am caring for my health. And, that I am filling my mind with the Truths of God’s Word.

But, in the midst of singleness, I believe that God still can and will use me. I am beginning to learn that singleness is a gift, and that I can use this gift, and this extra time to serve others. I can use this extra time I have to pour myself into the lives of loved ones, who may be struggling with difficult circumstances or facing some kind of disappointment. I can use this time to pray for others I know that are single and are longing to find someone as well. I can use this time to pour my heart into the Word of God and let Him refine and perfect me, and mold me to be more like Jesus Christ. I can use this time to see the needs that people have and meet them. So, just know this that whether you are single or married or wherever you are at in life, God will use you!

My New Exercise Routine

Growing up, I never made exercise a habit. I hated doing it, and it felt like death to me. 😨 Flash forward a few years, and now I am really wishing it was a habit back then, because then it would be easier for me to want to go to the gym. But, I just discovered Planet Fitness and I will never go back to another gym! They are super affordable, a no judgement zone, and they have workout plans for people of all fitness levels! I haven’t worked out in so long, so a few pieces of advice I have picked up along the way.

Start small. Going for a walk or a short run is better than doing nothing at all, or lifting some weights or whatever it may be for you, just get out there and do something to improve your health and wellness. Trust me, you will be glad that you did!

Accountability is key. Find a good workout buddy who can keep you accountable, and push you when you need to be pushed.

If you do, do weights, start easy, and as your strength grows increase the weight. Personally, I use machines for weights, at least until I can lift free weights without hurting myself! 😂 Do 3 reps of 10, and if you go with a buddy rotate, so that there is break between reps. It’s not overwhelming, but you better believe that by that last repetition, you will be struggling, but that’s how you know you are working your muscles.

Find a time of the day that works best for you, and try to keep it consistent so that you can get into a routine of going daily. r me, it works best for me to do my workout first thing in the morning, because it allows me to wake up and start my day right, and then I actually think about what foods I am putting into my body.

I don’t know about you, but always having cute and comfy activewear is motivation enough for me. I love Old Navy Active and Zella from Nordstrom for good quality workout clothing.

And, don’t let your lack of confidence hold you back. You can do this! 💪 It might not always be pretty or you might not get the results you want right away, but if you consistently work at it, you will begin to see results, and ultimately you will know that you are taking care of your body and on your way to having a healthier lifestyle.

I would love to hear from you, what struggles are you having with working out and how are YOU working today to overcome those struggles?

Some Favorites from Francesca’s & a Fun Photoshoot with Friends

A few months ago, I went window shopping and did a whole try on session at Loft, and then I stopped into Francesca’s. I wasn’t planning on buying anything, but their customer service was amazing, I felt bad, and after trying on these two pieces, I didn’t want to take them off.

This gray baby doll top is super soft and flowy. It looks great with leggings or tights, and it would look cute with jeans too. I sized up, so that it was longer and I could wear it with leggings.

This vest is AMAZING! It is a solid purple color, has pockets, and looks very similar to a quilted vest from J-Crew. It is also reversible, and the other side is purple, soft, and fuzzy and warm. It can be worn with almost any top or sweater that’s neutral, so that it adds a pop of color.

Now, I want to tell you about two of the most amazing people ever, or at least in my opinion – my sister and my best friend. My sister and I are fourteen months apart, and although we definitely have our moments, we love being together, jamming to music, going on lunch dates to Chick-Fil-A, and always, and I mean always laughing!

And, my best friend, Cammy, she is the funniest, yet sweetest person I know, and she loves me even when I am acting a little crazy! She is obsessed with cacti, her dog, Mildred, and loves to have dance parties, and eat Chick-Fil-A. All three of us love to have impromptu photo shoots, when we can get fancy, and go out and take styled and candid pictures. We like having cute photos and not so cute ones, that really show our personalities to be able to look back on, and remember the fun memories that we have together.

So, we decided to have an impromptu photoshoot in the beginning of March at the White Cliffs of Conoy. It’s about 45 mins from where we live. We went on a super windy day, and it was freezing cold. But, we did capture some gems, and we made some great memories together!

Hello, my name is Julia Bitler. I am 18 years old, and I am currently going to a community college for general education. I still haven’t decided what it is that I want to do with my life. I am also working retail – at old navy, where I am a baby sales lead. While I currently work at Old Navy, all opinions are my own, unless otherwise stated. I started Jules of Sunshine because I get to help people find their style everyday, and I love it so much, that I wanted to start this blog to help others too. I also have recently been interested in fashion, and was inspired by many other fashion bloggers to start my own fashion and lifestyle blog.

A Little Bit About Me:

I grew up in New Jersey, but currently live in Lancaster Pennsylvania. I like to eat pretty much anything, but my favorite foods are any kind of meat, caesar salad, and ice cream. I am 5′ 11.5… I know so close to 6″, yet so far away. My go to outfit, is probably jeans, a t-shirt, cardigan, and slip on sneakers. But, when I am not out and about, I live in leggings and sweatpants and vests. As you can see, I am all about the cozy and comfortable style.

This look was from senior pictures last year. I absolutely love this outfit. I had bought this floppy hat at target (it was on sale!). So, my sister and I went to a local park and took these pictures. It is such a simple, yet comfortable outfit. And, even though its comfy, I feel put together when I am wearing it.

Neutrals & Neon

For years and years, I have struggled with my weight, my health, and working out. I will be honest about some things, I am not disciplined in my eating or exercising. I never was really into sports growing up, and I have just always hated working out. And, I love cheese, ice cream, and basically anything gummy or sweet. And, for years, I have just eaten whatever I wanted whenever I want to, and it has really caught up to me.

So, today I am sharing some steps that I have taken over the years that has helped me begin to get some self-control in these things.

  1. Like I said, I just eat and eat, and overeat, and sometimes even stress eat, but it’s hard to eat healthy, when all of the junk food is easily accessible. But, one thing that has helped me is having fruit that needs to be cut or peeled ready to go, so it is easy to grab and go. One of my favorite foods is apple and peanut butter, and almond butter is a nice alternative too. It also helps to have veggies cut up, and add a little bit of sauce, like ranch or something, but not too much. Carrots and ranch are good, or cucumbers or peppers.
  2. One of the hardest diet plans for me, but the most rewarding diet plan was Whole 30. My family did Whole 30 last summer, and while it was difficult, and I got the worst headaches from withdrawing from dairy, gluten, and sugar. It was so worth it. If you don’t know what Whole 30 is, it is basically a 30 day diet that eliminates gluten, dairy, and sugar and focuses on clean eating.
  3. Kayla Itsines BBG Workout Program was another program that helped me, while I was on it. It is a 12 week program of 7 exercises! To be honest, when I first started, I couldn’t do half the exercises, and I had to (whats the word) them. But, as I continued on in the program, I felt so good, and I was kind of always waiting for my time to workout, even if I didn’t always enjoy or feel like doing it.
  4. Another workout program that I recently started getting into was the couch to 5K program. If you are interested in checking out, just download the couch to 5K app and go!

Lace, Light Washed Denim, & Sparkly Shoes

The Loft has been one of my new favorite places to shop. They usually have really good sales, and their clothing is perfect for office work wear, or a night out on the town. And, their clothing is such good quality, and their Lou and Grey brand has the softest clothing ever!

Recently, I picked up this gorgeous, green blouse, and you guys, I am obsessed with it! It is so soft and comfortable. It can be dressed up with a blazer or nice cardigan or jacket, and it can dress down with jeans or shorts. And, it can even be tied over a dress and styled that way, but I am planning to do another post on that later! 🙂

These jeans are the new Old Navy Power Jeans. At first, I wasn’t sure that I liked this style of jeans, because I am so used to the Rockstar Skinny jeans, but I knew I needed to try these jeans. If you like a more fitted fit, I would size down, but if you want a more boyfriend jean-like fit, then stick with your true size. I decided to go with my normal size, and I love the fit, it’s a bit more relaxed. These jeans come in multiple different washes, and a green and white color.

And these shoes! AH-MAZING! At first, I wasn’t really sure about these kicks, but I decided to step out of my comfort zone a little bit, and I love them! And, they are neutral enough that they can pretty much go with anything!

Did you ever try a trend or a style that was outside of your comfort zone, and then you ended up liking it? I would love to hear what trend or style it was. So, comment below and let me know!

Denim, White, and a POP of Pink

So, on vacation, I did a little online shopping.. whoops! But, I picked up some new pieces and items for certain trends that I have been wanting to try for a while, and haven’t had the guts to try on. I work in retail, so, I don’t always make myself dress up because I am not forced to, so then when I am at home, I am always wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Well, I am working on stepping out of my comfort zone, and finding nicer and dressier clothing that I can dress down, but still look put together and not like a bum.

This look just kind of came together in my brain while I was on vacay. I was trying to plan outfits for an upcoming photo shoot, and I just knew that these 3 pieces were made to be worn together.  I have always loved the denim skirt trend, but I had never found one that I loved. This one is so comfortable and can be dressed up with a nicer blouse or dressed down with a graphic tee. And, this tee is so comfortable and soft and easy to throw on – the perfect basic to add to any outfit. And, these kicks (LOVE)! I don’t think I can say anything more about them. They are so cute and perfect for spring and summer. And, they can be worn with a casual dress or with jeans or with a pair of shorts.

Also, shout out to the amazing Mimi for these gorgeous pictures! Feel free to check her out on Instagram! Also, feel free to reach out to me if you have any comments or questions!

Business Casual

Currently, I am working at a place where its a little hard to dress up because I am standing all day, and running around getting things done. But, I love the idea of dressing up and getting a little fancier for work. Maybe some day I will have an office job, and be able to do these things. But, I know many of you that may be reading this have to dress up for work, so I decided to try putting together some business casual outfits for ya’ll.

One of my new favorite places for some more professional looking and fancier clothing is the Loft. Now, they are little bit pricier, but they usually have some really good sales going on!

This top is from the Loft, and its so comfortable, cute, and flattering. And, it has the cutest crossover ruffle in the back. It can be dressed up with a pencil skirt or nice pants, or it can be worn with ripped jeans and some flats.

These pants are Old Navy’s Pixie pants, and they are perfect for workwear. They are super comfortable, and can be also be dressed down if you feel like just wearing a basic tee with them.

This linen blazer is also from Old Navy. And, it is the most comfortable blazer I have ever worn. And, its pretty lightweight and perfect for warmer days. I would recommend sizing down one size in this, because it has a little bit of a looser fit.

And, I really wanted a different pair of shoes for this look, but I was kind of in a time crunch, and I found these loafers on clearance at Old Navy, and they worked for this look. But, you could always wear something more business casual like heels or fancy flats.

And this location was amazing. The natural light, the plants, the staircase, all of it was just the perfect place to shoot this look. If you are in Lancaster, this adorable stop is behind Dough & Co. on Prince Street. And, if you haven’t checked out Dough and Co. you are missing out!
